What is Apocalypse?

Apocalypse is a Multi-User Dungeon built on an aging yet tried-and-true codebase called DIKU. The code has been modified over the course of about 26 years to come into its current state.

A MUD is a multiplayer real-time virtual world, usually text-based. MUDs combine elements of role-playing games, hack and slash, player versus player, interactive fiction, and online chat. Players can read or view descriptions of rooms, objects, other players, non-player characters, and actions performed in the virtual world. Players typically interact with each other and the world by typing commands that resemble a natural language.

Apocalypse is set in its own unique experience with a large, self-sufficient city-state ruled by the last of the sorcerer kings as well as a sister trade city ruled by only the toughest with no real ‘criminal code’ system in place but a system where players dispense justice (or ignore) the criminal population.

Apocalypse draws heavily upon the world of Athas and the lore of Darksun and is only based on its principles and some of the lore.

“Night poured over the desert. It came suddenly, in purple. In the clear air, the stars drilled down out of the sky, reminding any thoughtful watcher that it is in the deserts and high places that religions are generated. When men see nothing but bottomless infinity over their heads they have always had a driving and desperate urge to find someone to put in the way.
